The Houdini is a multi purpose tool that can be used as a safety lanyard when working in proximity to anchors where more mobility than a personal safety tether allows is required. It can be affixed to an etrier to help folks behind you escape small potholes and other obstacles where setting up a haul is not required or practical. It is great for backing up ghosting anchors like Waterpockets and sandtraps.
